Getting (Back) Into the Game

I've finally begun curating my races for 2016. And if I wasn't in the middle of the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Run Streak, I might be more excited about it

For 2016 I've decided to set some search criteria for the races I'll be doing and this is what I came up with

1. 5K Distance 2016 is the year of the Monkey 5K. I'm racing 5Ks. I want to miss the half marathon so badly that I'll be all over it in 2017.

2. No Sunday races. I don't usually mind skipping Church to run a half marathon or full marathon. In my conveniently warped mind God forgives me when I'm racing the longer distances. Skipping church to run a 5K, however, makes me feel like the fire and brimstone is about to come thundering down. But that's just me and my guilt! No judgement to anyone who races 5Ks on Sundays, I STG!!

3. Local - This goes without saying. Traveling more than 30 minutes to run a 5K is....it's a longer drive than it is a run. Oh wait, I know, it's ironic.

4. Have a Unique Quality - weather it be a cool medal or free pancake breakfast or run at night or get pummeled head to toe with non-toxic fluorescent colors. But I'm especially a sucker for free food.

Here are the first 3 races I'm signed up for this Spring:

FEBRUARY

I had such a phenomenal time running the LA Marathon last year. Right now the local TV station is constantly running ads on the morning news show and I'm FULL of regret for backing out of running LA in 2016. I'm going to do the 5K and hope to see some old friends from the LA Running Club.

MARCH

This one made the list because of it's location in Griffith Park and because of course, there will be Frozen Yogurt. I'll run for froyo. I've run for a lot less than that in the past.

APRIL

This one is the most intriguing for me. I've never actually been in the LA riverbed except once as a rebellious teen on a dare. Well, this run will be on the riverbed. It's also an Earth Day run, so I'm expecting karmedic rewards in lieu of a medal.

I'm also half expecting to see the T-Birds and the Scorpians out there having their own race!

I'm linking up with MCMMamaRunsMarcia's Healthy Slice and My No Guilt Life for Tuesdays on the Run. Click over & check out all the other Spring Races posts!

How is your 2016 Spring Racing Season shaping up? Did anyone sign up for Disney?

  3. There is races with free pancakes? We don't have those here in PA! at least not that I know of! And FroYo? You have all the best runs there! at my last race they gave me a water, a banana and sent me on my way!

Still contemplating spring races, I thought I had a 10K on sight, but I have to arrange for somebody to watch my son while I run.

I can't wait to see how your races went!

    1. I'm not sure how you can look ahead to Spring races when you can't see over the snow drifts outside your door! That is so scary to me!! Lol

    1. I thought you may have been referring to the LA night run in Pomona. I did that one last year because my niece (who doesn't run) was obsessed with DJ Kaskade and he was headlining it. But I will definitely recap the river run!

      Have safe travels!!

  5. Froyo sounds like a great thing to have after a race. So much better than a banana that most races give out. What a refreshing treat!

    1. I'm curious to see how it'll be kept frozen. It might be a yogurt shake by the time I'm finished! :)

  6. I would definitely run for frozen yogurt! I have a 5k this weekend, a half coming up in March, a 10k in April, and a lot of maybes. I have some scheduling things I have to figure out before I sign up for a bunch of races :)
