Weekend Tangents

If it were up to me, I'd be up at 8am on a Saturday morning to start my run. Run buddy Val thinks it's totally normal to head out at 5am. Sheesh, I'd have to be up at 4-something to be ready to run at 5? Umm, no.) Our compromise is to head out at 6:30am.
Some Saturday mornings the only way I can get to the trail is by constantly repeating to myself that I will only do 2 miles and then I can go home and back to bed. Of course once I'm warm, I hardly ever stop at mile 2.
6 miles at 12:52 pace. Not too shabby.

Waking up early on Saturday sucks, but I prefer running when we have the trail all to ourselves. Just us and the tweakers and homeless, that is.
Our Post Run breakfast at Jack's is also better before the crowds converge and turn the place into a zoo. Today I had the Huevos Rancheros instead of french toast.
Val actually ordered french toast with his eggs, which he never does. I thought it was the strangest thing that he couldn't use the same fork he'd eaten his eggs with to eat his french toast. The waitress brought him a fresh fork. That's weird, right? Maybe I'm weird...I hardly even need any utensils to eat my food, ha ha.
Yesterday after breakfast we ran a few errands that included the Drive-Thru at Krispy Kreme.

I never used to believe I had a trigger food. I've heard the term Trigger Food used a lot and never could imagine what kind of food would cause me to me to overeat to the point that I'm not in control.
After eating one KK donut, I asked Val to put the box in the trunk. He pulled over and did that for me. I now totally know what my Trigger Food is and I was alarmed at the reaction I had to these.
I eat donuts all the time and I like them a lot. For some reason, these were on a different level.

One of our errands was to stop in to the running store to take advantage of their big sale. I didn't buy any shoes--it seems like I'm unique in the fact that I only own 2 pairs of running shoes, both the exact same style. I keep 1 pair at home and the other in my gym bag. Every other runner I know (including Val) has a closet full of just running shoes. I don't understand why runners need so many, but I do know that it is the norm in the running world to have a ton of shoes--and I am not.
No thanks, mine are good.

I did pick up a new cap for my Amphipod handheld. I used to have the one that you pull open with your teeth, but it was getting pretty gross from teeth marks and water crud.
And I totally hated the way my handheld bottle was constantly leaking. Sometimes it was because I forgot to close the cap after taking a sip but it always leaked a little bit even when it was completely shut.
I really do like the ergonomic style of the Amphipod bottle so I didn't want to have to buy a whole new leak-proof bottle. The new style of Amphipod lids have a one-way squeeze valve that doesn't seem to leak. I haven't tried it on a run yet but I have high hopes for this.

Later in the day we stopped for a late lunch/early dinner at one of my faves: Soup Plantation. Yum. I wish I could eat here more often.
I spent the rest of the evening on Saturday watching Master of None on Netflix. Thanks, Kristina, for turning me on to this. It was hilarious! I totally want to date Aziz! Well, not really, because I don't want to date at all at this point in my life. But when I start dating again.....
After church today we headed over to Auntie Bonnie's for a farewell Sunday dinner for my nephew who is going into boot camp on Tuesday.
I can't believe how grown my niece/nephews are. I'm so super proud of all of them!
Happy MLK day! I hope your 3 day weekend (if you have one) is AWESOME!

  1. Hahahah I am SO the same way when it comes to early morning runs. I always tell myself "okay, just 2 miles" then "just 3 miles" and then it usually just turns into "oh okay, I should just do the whole thing and then go home and nap for however long I want!"

I'm so glad you're enjoying Master of None! I just finished the season finale on Friday and now I can't wait for season 2!

  2. I remember when I used to be part of a running group that would meet at 5:30 or 6am. In Alaska there's not as much reason to run so early -- especially this time of year when it still doesn't even get light until after 9am.

I actually don't like Krispy Kreme donuts very much. I guess I'm weird.

  3. 5:30 am!! ouchies! 6:30 sounds like a good compromise!

My fiancé has more running shoes than he knows what to do with. Just at this moment he has 4, plus 2 more he uses only for the gym. I only have 1 pair for running, and 1 pair for zumba. I can't keep track of more than 2 pairs of sneakers.

Your pictures of food look delicious! I am not hungry for chilaquiles!!
